Nowadays the buzz word in the field of business is no longer about management but rather of leadership. There used to be a flood of books about good management or something about being the best manager. Today if you happen to walk around bookstores they will tell you that the fast moving books are those which tackle leadership.

The sudden shift in terms of preferring leadership over management is because today the playing field has change. It is no longer about just mere productions but rather a concern on the individuals that man the production line plus a huge consideration in the direction by which any business is heading.

Today the consideration is in three major aspects:

People

As we all have realized today without the people who man our production lines or those who sell what has been produced are vital resource for a business. Leave your workforce unhappy and your cost of production will surely rise due to pilferage or simply due to mistakes in the production process. This would translate to higher cost of production thus the pricing would go higher as well even if the margin is not that high since most of your product cost went to product cost.


Vision

Back in the period of the baby boomers targets were what drive companies and individuals to produce. Today it is different. There must be a much deeper underlying purpose for performing something or doing something and that is were the leaders of the organization drive their team towards a common vision one that is formulated in a way that it is both realistic and can easily be transmitted from one person to the other. A vision may be for a period of at least 3 years ant that it needs to be changed not just after years but also after the leader deems it necessary, besides nobody would die for a target but people would give their best even themselves for a cause.

System

This is where management comes in - what type of system do you adopt in order to foster your vision with the people backing you up to reach it. This management system enables the organization to move with ease as each milestone is reach until the vision is at hand.

Combining these major considerations together would translate to a more solid business one that even crisis can not move. Take care of your people consider them as human capital not just resource - invest in them, ensure that the vision is clear and that the system of management adopted will aid you reach your companies full potential - be profitable today consider the facts. Consider PEOPLE, VISION and SYSTEM.
